Desert Rose, founded in 1999 by composer and music director,
Lynne Holmes-Ganief, changed course in 2008 when lead vocalist and group
manager was recorded in their first joint Sufi world music album, The Prayer. The focus of composing
healing and deep relaxation music was enhanced by sacred chanting and created a
new sound within the world music genre. The album became a best seller and achieved
international acclaim with distribution in Turkey, Malaysia and the UK.
Their latest albums, Tariqat
(The Path) and Welcome the Light,
were produced in 2012 and 2013 respectively and specifically for the
international markets where the full Desert Rose group performed to standing
ovations in London (June 2012), Singapore (April 2013) and Penang, Malaysia
(July 2012/2013). Their music has been described as a multicultural musical
euphoria as it combines and intertwines ancient languages such as Arabic,
Sanskrit, English and Xhosa, breaking down barriers through a distinct Desert
Rose musical signature of classical world music composition.
